AQUA/TURQUOISE - my favorite color!

Here are some bracelets I have just finished. I think by now it is pretty obvious how much I love the color Aqua! I love using copper with aqua as well as silver with different shades of turquoise. It has been my favorite color to wear my whole life.

I also have been working on this lovely glass pendant. I want to add some wire-wrapped beads to dangle from the silver chain to show off the colors of the pendant. I have have been collecting gorgeous beads for about 9 years and now I can put them to use. I can get lost for hours creating and what a great time it is!

Tye Dye Skirt w/cream flower applique

I have been having a wonderful time working with clothing the last few months. Here is my latest attempt! The skirt is soft, tiered, lovely and tye dyed. It is a warm brown/tan at the top and then the tan gets lighter and lighter down to the bottom of the skirt. It has elastic at the waist and drapes down to the ankle. It is a medium or between a size 10 to 14 women. I have sewn a lovely cream cotton flower with a brown beaded center onto the side of the skirt. I have had these skirts for awhile but was unsure how to accent them. I wanted it to be neutral and versatile as well. I thought this combination was perfect! I had so much fun working on this skirt. It is perfect for year round wear, with boots or with sandles.

Our adorable puppy PEPPER!

This is our baby Pepper. We do not know what we would do without her. She is the most loving, cuddly, happy puppy we have ever known. She loves to be 'comfortable', give her a blanket and she is in heaven. Add a pillow and watch out! She even has clothes now that it is winter. We are looking into those puppy booties as it is so cold here right now and her paws hurt on the ice. It has been 2 degrees, 5 degrees, 10 degrees and believe me, I have to almost force her to go outside to do her business...lol...This pictures depicts Pepper at her happiest. Add me and my daughter and she is in heaven! She has to sleep right up against me the whole night. I never knew a dog could bring such joy and comfort. One of my sisters says that if I die before Pepper does, she gets her...lol....I don't think so, she would have to fight my daughter for custody!

My favorite past time when I was a very young child, was coloring. I couldn't get enough of it and had coloring books and crayons galore! For each birthday, I was thrilled to get a brand new box of crayons and a new coloring book - simple pleasures compared to today's standard! As I grew a little older, I still loved coloring, but added drawing, then paint by numbers and wow, that started a whole new love for me. What an artist I thought I was when my painting was finished!!!

I don't remember creating anything through my teen years, with school and working 2 jobs, there wasn't much time for anything else. Then got married at 21 and life got even busier with all the work, running our own business and all things in our household too, because my hubby became a work-aholic! Also raising our 2 girls basically by myself, all the while looking after my Mom who was in ill health for several years before she passed. I decided I needed something for just ME, to create a little 'get-a-way' for the sake of my own sanity, so I started to take painting seriously. I enrolled in my first art class and I've never looked back. I was hooked from day one and now almost 19 years later, I'm still in LOVE with all forms of painting.

I love all vivid colors, they make me feel soooooo alive and give me such a sense of joy. I have painted in all mediums at one time or another, but love oil painting the best. When I want to paint something very special and truly take my time at it, I do so in oils. Oils take a long time to cure (fully dry), so when I paint to sell, I mostly paint in acrylics, which dry almost instantly. I also love painting using Genesis paints which look, feel and paint like oils. The difference is, you can heat-set your painting at any time, making it fully dry and eliminating the long cure time of traditional oils.

I have painted on everything from a small canvas to a large bedroom armoire. Countless furniture items that I have lovingly hand painted are now heirloom pieces in homes throughout Canada and the United States. I loved painting on very unique items found in antique shops and when I put my 'magic' brushes to work on them, they became priceless treasures.

I also enjoyed teaching my art to some very wonderful, dedicated students and was thrilled when I saw their finished projects. Seeing that look of satisfaction and joy in their eyes at what they had accomplished, was incredibly gratifying for me. I can no longer paint those incredible furniture pieces, nor go out and teach and I sadly miss those days!

I've lived in chronic pain for many years now due to disabling arthritis, which has left me with extremely limited mobility and has put a halt to so many things that I once enjoyed doing. I very seldom leave my house or get to do the fun type things that everyone else takes for granted, so I thank the Lord for having introduced me to painting so many years ago, and I count my blessings!

Ever since that first painting class, I actually SEE the God given beauty that is all around us. I am humbled by all of His creation, from the tiniest living creature, to the tallest majestic mountain! I can't even explain how fulfilled and contented painting makes me feel. Even on the worst possible day, if I pick up a brush and start playing with color, all things unpleasant fade into the background...yes even the pain! It's my greatest therapy and provides me with endless joy. I truly do paint from my heart! ♥♥♥

I also asked her sister (and fellow Etsy artisan) Monika to give me some info on Elfie. Here's what Monika had to say (and be sure to visit her shop as well):

Allie, what can I tell you about my sister. As far back as I can remember, Elfie has been gifted with a sense of color and has an amazing sense of what goes together and what looks awesome. She has always had a hunger for learning and teaching and sharing and I am so blessed by all the pieces she so graciously given to me. My home is filled with very special treasures that she has created through the years and there isn't a room in my home that doesn't display her magnificent talents. Her first gift to me hangs in my office and is right behind me now and is a beautiful wooden sign that captures the pure essence of a company I started a few years back creating aroma therapy products for horses. The detail is amazing and I love to step into this sanctuary of mine and just look at it. I truly think that is but one of the things that I soooo admire about her work. The detail - the intricate detail that she puts into every piece, combined with the realism - it is totally beyond my comprehension HOW she does it - only to say that the answer to that comes from the very heart of her soul. Every piece is made with love and that's the predominant factor that flows in all of her creations. If you saw the pieces that I have in my house they would blow you away. It is soooo obvious to me that she loves what she does - whether that's in the art of creating new pieces, cooking a meal for her family, taking care of her grandchild, writing words of encouragement and upliftment, offering her gifts in so many unique ways to thousands of people - I wonder if she even comprehends the immense impact that her giving heart has on so many. Her body may be weak but her faith keeps her strong and I heartfeltly believe that her many talents are a gift of God - to allow her to share them and bring joy...and she does that with a humble heart and always offers smiles to everyone she meets - whether or not they meet face to face or typewritten word to typewritten word.

My Grammy is the nicest and prettiest grandma in the whole Universe. She gives the best hugs and she loves me so much, she never gets mad at me when I do something wrong. She reads me stories and plays ball with me and because she can't walk very well, we spend lots of time doing crafts. My favorite thing to do with my Grammy is painting and helping her make pendants, but I sure do get messy! My Grammy has painted lots of special things for me and she loves my good painting ideas. I also help her think of good names for her pendants. I draw lots of pictures for Grammy and she loves them so much, she puts them all over her walls. We both love to color together and she even lets me color things with crazy colors. She teaches me how to draw trees and houses and flowers, but I like to draw things my way and she lets me. Grammy always lets me help her when she's cooking or making sandwiches for a picnic and it's lots of fun. My Grammy calls me her 'Sunny, Funny, Hunny-Bunny' and I laugh when she says that. She also calls me her 'Sweetie Pie' because she says I'm always really sweet. Sometimes Grammy lets me comb her hair into a new style and I put some of my pretty hair clips in and she even lets me put my kid's makeup on her. She is the best babysitter because she keeps me safe. We always have fun together and she loves to hear my songs and watch me dance. She is the best because I had two really bad splinters that hurt so bad and she pulled them out and didn't even hurt me. I love my Grammy more than anything, even my toys or my favorite stuffed animals.

I am slowly getting back to work. S L O W L Y.....lol

This hat is so fun and unique. Beads and rhinestones have been added and a delicate 'BlingString' that attaches/detaches easily.

Another great hat. It is a brown beanie type fo hat with leopard trim. I have added an embroidered flower for this picture, but another flower or applique can be put on instead. This flower is not permant on this hat. I can add whatever kind of adornment anyone wants!

Another tunic, this lovely green one has beautiful embroidery all over the front and on the sleeves as well. They come in many colors, sizes (I only have about 14 left) and can be bought off the blog for $22!

This handmade scarf is so unusual! It has blues, browns, cream all woven through it. It has lengths of yarn hanging off the sides of the scarf for a very unsual and beautiful scarf. There are elbow length gloves in blue or brown that look perfect with it! The scarf is wool and is $25 and can be purchased right off my blog using paypal. Local buyers can just pay/pick up in person! The gloves are $10 and have lovely gathers in three places up the glove to the elbow. If purchased together the set is $28.

This gorgeous silk tunic has white embroidery all over the front. A bit of sparkle has been added to the embroidery! For sale on my blog only for $22 each. Comes in a variety of colors and sizes. There are a few aqua ones left, 2 light yellow, 1 cream, 1 coral, 2 or 3 pink, a few greens, and one white one left. They are stunning with a tank or a t-shirt. White looks the best to me, but you can put any color you want! They are lightweight, soft, silky, have slits up the sides and the sleeves are between 3/4 length and wrist length. Perfect for all seasons!

I've been having great fun upcycling all styles of hats. They are more unique and a great deal too! I have knitted, crocheted, flannel and cotton in military, newsboy and beanie styles.

The "adornment" varies and is completely unique! There are beads, flowers, brooches, trim, ribbon and the always popular *BlingString* seen on my "regular" hats!

My MAGIC Amaryllis plant

This plant is very special to me, but it also possesses magical powers! I promise! I will tell you why!

My mom died last year (July 2008). One of her greatest joys was flowers - all kinds, colors, etc. She could never have enough outside and spent so much of the Spring/Summer months outside with her flowers. My mom did not know a stranger. She had enough love for everyone! She hugged anyone that would let her. She was (still is) a positive, powerful example to her family!

She has an identical twin, has 10 kids, with one daughter who passed away at age 3 1/2 from complications with asthma. She was strong, stubborn, creative, loving, independent, strong-willed (lol), comforting, an awesome listener, way into her kids lives (LOL)!

My dad passed away at age 47 and she still had 7 kids at home to raise. I am the 7th of those 10 kids My mom never remarried, just focused on her kids, her grandkids (about 40 of them), her greatgrandkids (about 30 I think?), her flowers and most of all - PEOPLE! She struggled with her health for most of my life at least, and she just kept plugging along. Nothing made her happier than visiting with someone and trying to bring a bright spot to their day!

The reason I am posting this about my mom and this plant is because I found this plant 10 days ago in my garage. Every year at Christmas time my mom would get all of us kids (and any friend/neighbor,etc....lol) an Amaryllis plant. I have no clue when she bought this last batch, someone just found them months after she died and passed them out.

Sometimes she would forget where she put gifts and find them months later! Such is the case with this plant. Last Christmas one of my siblings found my mom's stash of Amaryllis plants and passed them out! It was very poignant and special. I received two of them. I immediately watered them and hoped for the best! Nothing happened and I was very disappointed. So I put them in my garage because I could not bear to part with them.

So, a week ago Monday night, Michael and I were organizing the gargage and happened upon this plant. I had thrown the other one away months ago because it had fallen over and was gone. I had kept this one in the hope that it would miraculously come back to life! When Michael showed it to me last week it looked dead. I decided I was going to take it into my kitchen, drench it with water and WILL it to bloom! LOL I had a cool feeling it was going to. I had been missing my mom more than normal and anyone who knows her knows that if she has any pull at all in Heaven, she was going to make this bloom!!!!! LOL

The very next night it had grown an inch. No kidding, we were all shocked. The next day - again - almost an inch. We were stunned and delighted! We kept watching it. One night Michael said it looked like it had grown just since he had gotten home from work 2 hours before! LOL :)

So now here it is Thursday morning and I had to take a picture to show off this MAGICAL 9" plant!!!!! It has grown 9 inches in just over 9 days! It has 3 stems and I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up with 100 blooms! (ok, major exaggeration here, but this plant has a force with it!...lol)

I need to tell you how wonderful this has been because it has been fun, comforting, cooler than anything, and absolutely delightful to see this plant come back to life with a vengeance! I swear it has a personality - we all feel it! Makes me feel like my mom is very close and watching over us and I have needed that feeling lately!

A few months ago my daughter and I drove past her home. She had lived there for over 40 years. She had planted many, many, many (lol) and I mean MANY rose bushes. They were all in absolute gorgeous bloom and it was very touching for us to see. I thought of what a beautiful legacy she had left behind for others to enjoy!

Perhaps this is where I get my passion for beauty, color and creating. I am thankful for her love, example, special spirit and am very grateful to be her daughter.

My husband installed these wall-mounted hardware bins for me to store my beads and findings in. It keeps everything so much more organized! :)

I use bulletin boards and a wall-mounted "hat rack" to store finished projects as well as projects in progress. It's made working in this small "cave" even easier!

I am having a wonderful time getting to 'know' people on Etsy, Facebook and on their blogs. Too many interesting things to see and read and not enough time!

Making and selling jewelry has been a dream of mine for years. I find that one of my most favorite times of the day is when I go downstairs, sit in my favorite chair, my bead trays all around me, watching 'Bones' or 'NCIS'. I get lost in creating. My darling dog, Pepper, lays on the couch, watching TV with me. I am very simple! LOL Does not take much to make me happy!

I just want everyone I am getting to know to know that I am really enjoying this time! The artists on Etsy are so warm, kind, complimentary, supportive and fun! I never tire of looking at sellers shops and blogs!

Well, I received my Creme Brulee Tarts in the mail today. They smell TERRIFIC without even putting them on the warmer! My daughter came out into the loft and said she smelled them when she opened the door. They were just right out of the mail package! This wonderful seller on Etsy does amazing work. Her shop is LoganBrookeCandles.etsy.com They come in many different scents, fun shapes and they smell better than any I have tried so far! Her prices are amazing and reasonable. She has car fresheners as well and I love the smell. I put some of the tarts in the burner, then just left some out on a ceramic plate in my living room. Delicious! J

My garden!

As I have posted before, my garden is an incredible delight and joy for me! My wonderful, special friend Michael is the one that got it going for me this year! He showed up one day with tomato plants, peppers, flowers, seeds, EVERYTHING! I have not been able to enjoy my passion for flowers for a few years. I feel as though a monster (a good one...lol) is rising up in me again!

Today I went out to water and of course, I had to count! I have 18 tomatoes, 4 peppers, carrot shoots, zucchini plants bigger by the hour! I am like a little child when I count and when more pop up! Michael grew up on a farm, and continued to grow many things as an adult as well. He is used to this incredible feeling of vegetables growing. It is new, wonderful and miraculous to me! I cannot hide my delight nor would I want to!

I found this poem from him this morning in my email! PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT! I had to share it. I could not have expressed it more eloquently. Enjoy:)

As she walks outside with her face all a glow,
Checking her garden and watching it grow
Tending to each plant, one by one
Ensuring each one gets enough water and sun
The joy that this brings, day after day
She thanks her Dear Lord, for making it this way

Hello all! I have been told that I should make my blog more personal! So I thought I would start by introducing myself and my family!

I am 48 years old. A maniac about flowers, beauty of all kinds, colors, waterfalls, music, dogs, family, friends, candles, driving fast, nice cars, singing at the top of my lungs while driving fast, and anything positive! So many things I would love to do and not enough time! LOL I love anything artistic.

A wonderful friend and I just planted a garden. I am so excited! We planted many different kinds of tomatoes, green onions, carrots, cucumbers, zucchini and 3 kinds of peppers! Today I have 12 tomatoes, 2 green peppers, 2 cucumber shoots, 2 zucchini shoots, and many more breaking through! (Whose counting? I check on them many times a day just to see if they are bigger!) What joy it is! I have not had this kind of outdoor joy since I had many flowers to care for in Delaware! My friend also created a mini-waterfall in my back yard! PERFECT!

I am the blessed mom of an enchanting, brilliant, wise, funny, lovely daughter named Lexie who is almost 25. She graduated from college in 2006 in History and Political Science. She is the brains behind this operation! She is very patient with her 'techo UN-savvy' mom! LOL Who would have ever thought I would be blogging? LOL She has taught me more in the last couple of months than I would have thought possible! Lexie is the one that came up with my Etsy shop name. She, more than anyone, surely finds her mom 'unique' to say the least (very much an understatement)!

My dog, Pepper, a black silky Cocka-poo is the light of our lives! She has been with us for 12 years and I hope for another million more! She adores me, I adore her, she is one of my best friends...lol...

I come from a HUGE family. I have 6 sisters, 3 brothers, 3 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law and I actually LOVE them! I have too many neices and nephews to count!

I have lived all over the United States (it feels like it anyway), and I am now back among family. Life is rather grand, fantastic, terrific, better than ever.....is it clear that I love my life? LOL

My daughter found Etsy back in January. I had wanted to find an avenue to share my creativity and Etsy is the PERFECT place!

I am so enjoying getting to 'know' the people on Etsy! Warm, friendly, helpful, kind and so very talented! I have always enjoyed 'artistic communities and personalities' whether at festivals, flea markets, boutiques, etc. I have been told I would have been a hippy had I been born about 5 years earlier!

I love to laugh almost more than anything! I love exclamation points and cannot refrain from using them! I am outgoing, love strangers (most of them...lol), enjoy being friendly. Kindness is just about the most wonderful thing there is.

How is this for more personal? I have used 'I' enough to last a lifetime!

This is such fun! These are some of the newest items in my Etsy shop! These *BlingStrings* not only spice up newsboy caps, baseball caps, and military caps, but also work as delicate, lovely anklets!
